Rockhill Orthopedics is a top five hospital in Texas, with the city’s most experienced doctors and nurses, according to a list released Monday.
But the hospital has had some critics over the years.
In May, the city council voted to rename the hospital to honor former Mayor Mike Harris, who was a physician at Rockhill.
Harris died in November 2018.
He was 86.
Rockhill’s staff was also on the receiving end of a slew of criticism, including from an angry local resident.
Rockhills resident Joe Mazzoni told Fox 5 he believes the hospital was a disaster from the beginning, even though it was built by the state of Texas.
Mazzoni said that he’s had a lot of people come up to me and say, ‘Well, you know, this hospital is better than what it is.’
Mazzonis said he doesn’t think the city can compete in the health care industry.
“The fact is, we’re better than that,” he said.
Mazza said the Rockhill orthopaedic team is the best in the country, even with a history of problems.
The Rockhill team is rated a top 10 hospital by the American College of Sports Medicine, he said, and the hospital had the best mortality rate for patients in the nation last year, according the American Journal of Public Health.
“They are among the top five,” Mazza said.
“There are others that are just much more advanced than we are.”
