AUSTIN, Texas – AUSTin, Texas, doctors say they have the best of all worlds when it comes to patient care.
Dr. Michael Collins is a Texas orthopaedic surgeon and a member of the Orthopedic Surgeons of America (OSA).
He is a member at OSA’s Medical Director Council and also serves as the organization’s president.
Collins says doctors can make a huge difference in how a patient is treated.
Collins, who has been working in the orthopedical field for over 40 years, said he has had a tremendous amount of success with patients with spinal injuries, as well as patients with vision problems.
He has worked with people with chronic back pain, chronic heart conditions and chronic lung conditions.
Collins is also a Certified Life Extension Specialist (CLA) with a focus on spinal cord injury.
He has also worked with patients whose symptoms have improved, and the recovery has been very dramatic.
He said doctors are not only experts in orthopedias, they are also experts in patient care, particularly in treating spinal injuries.
“It’s not just orthopedists who can provide the highest level of care,” Collins said.
“It’s also surgeons who can take a patient from the operating room to the operating table.”
Collins said that many doctors have a limited understanding of how spinal injuries can affect a patient’s ability to walk, or how to properly position a patient in a wheelchair.
The majority of doctors are also hesitant to prescribe the drug that Collins and other surgeons prescribe.
However, Collins said that if a patient can get into a comfortable position on the operating tables, they have a very high chance of success.
Collins said he had many patients who could not walk on the stretchers in his office because of the pain and the medication.
Collins said he was a patient of his in the early days of his career.
He says he saw patients that had spinal injuries that required surgery to repair, and had to have their arms removed to move them.
Collins was able to walk on his own with help from his doctors and he was able give them some of the best advice.
“They were very understanding of the importance of the work,” Collins told ABC News.
“They wanted to help us out.”
Collins says that with more and more patients getting spinal injuries and being able to do what he does, the importance is not only to the orthopeds, but also the doctors and nurses who care for the patients.
He said that it’s important to have the right equipment to give the best care.
“We are going to make sure that our patients get the best possible care and the right people that can help them out,” Collins added.
“When you have the training and the tools, you have a lot more control over what happens in your patient care.”
The medical team at OSACO is comprised of five medical directors, with the current President of the organization, Dr. Paul Smith, being a member.
Dr Smith is also an orthopedically trained physician and has been a member since 2000.
He is currently the medical director for OSA.
OSACOs medical director Council is comprised entirely of medical professionals, and Smith said the medical directors have a significant influence in the decisions that OSA makes.
“If you ask anyone what the most important decision for us is, I would say it’s the patients,” Smith said.
“The patient is what drives us,” Smith added.
